Irish Wedding

So why the Irish theme? Why the kilts?

Anyone that knows Matt knows he is more likely to be found in a kilt than in pants. This wedding will be no exception.

After some research into his mom's side of the family, Matt learned that much of that side of the family is deeply Irish. As far back as records go, every ancestor immigrated to the US from Ireland.

Believe it or not, the Irish have worn kilts since the 19th century or so as a way for them to celebrate their Gaelic culture. Kilts were banned during English rule in Ireland and Scotland and have made a huge comeback in modern times. To acknowledge this heritage, Matt and his groomsmen will be wearing kilts featuring the Irish National Tartan, shown below.
Another Irish aspect of the wedding is the tradition of "handfasting," where the couple's hands are tied together in a literal knot (this is where the term "Tying the Knot" comes from!)

If wearing a kilt isn't your thing - thats OK! While men are welcome to branch out and join us for our celebration in a kilt, we don't expect it. Please wear whatever you find comfortable; we want you to enjoy yourself and have a great time!

(Ladies, if you're in a kilt, you're crossdressing... Kilts are for men only ;-)
